VPN Access

ICS is currently using 2 methods for VPN access. WireGuard is the faster and more capable VPN client, so it is the preferred VPN client at this time.

WireGuard

Install WireGuard client by downloading the appropriate installer from the following site: https://www.wireguard.com/install/

Or directly download the installer for Windows here: https://download.wireguard.com/windows-client/wireguard-installer.exe

Someone in IT can then provide you with the appropriate configuration file to import into WireGuard to set up your VPN connection.

One thing to note with WireGuard is that when the VPN tunnel shows active, this only means the client is actively trying to maintain a VPN connection to our office. It does not mean the connection is working. The only way to tell if the connection is actively working is by opening the WireGuard client and looking under the Peer section for the Last Handshake. If this timer resets every few minutes, then your VPN connection should be working. If the time exceeds 2-3 minutes, then the VPN connection has failed and could mean you're not on a public internet connection or some other error has occurred. You can deactivate and re-activate your connection if you want, or wait to see if it eventually re-establishes a connection on its own.

OpenVPN

Avoid using OpenVPN going forward as we're switching over to WireGuard for all new VPN configurations as it's easier to setup and provides faster connection speeds.

Install OpenVPN client by downloading the MSI 64-bit installer from the following site: https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/

Someone in IT can then provide you with the appropriate configuration file to import into OpenVPN to set up your VPN connection.
